St. Peter and St. Simon’s Church, 525 Bloor St. East, Toronto
Join Flute Street for a special and exciting musical event conducted again by our permanent conductor, Lisa Jack. It was just two years ago during the Canada 150 celebrations that Flute Street performed in Québec as guest artists for our neighbor province’s counterpart ensemble Les flutists de Montréal. Now completing this exchange, the two ensembles will be heard both individually and together for the first time in Ontario.
In a varied programme of French, British, Canadian and American music, will be the Canadian premières of Alexandra Molnar-Suhadja’s Owl Prowl and Jonathan Cohen’s Tango Molto Basso, both composed for the low flutes ensemble.* Also featured will be the Toronto première of Kingston, Ontario’s John W.N. Palmer’s Three Shades of Blue.
With classical, renaissance, and jazz elements included, and the captivating colours of two full-range flute choirs, this evening is sure to appeal to all.
*Low Flutes Ensemble is a group using only instruments that are pitched lower than the standard concert flute. For example, Cohen’s Tango will be performed by six alto flutes, six bass flutes, two contrabass flutes and one double contrabass flute. This performance will mark not only just the second time Toronto has ever heard two contrabass flutes played together, but also the largest grouping of low flutes ever to be heard in concert in this city.
